OLD TIME JULY 4th CELEBRATION

Tentative 2007 Schedule
Come and Celebrate with us!
Events are scheduled throughout the weekend. Family and school reunions held over
this Holiday make it one of the best times to "come home."
The Independence Day Parade is always a Saturday morning treat. Line-up starts
on Downie or School Streets about 9:30 am. Highway 90 is closed for the mile-long parade
route. Floats, riders, cyclists, and costumed entries parade down Main Street.
Other popular parade entries are old cars and trucks that compete later in the
Car Show for a variety of prizes.
Immediately following the parade, the annual Barbeque begins at the new Terrell
County Pavilian in BiCentennial Park (next door to the Courthouse). Saturday afternoon,
there is an Old Timer's Hour, Ice Cream Contest, Class Reunions, and sometimes,
a Softball Tournament.
The old pecan trees provide welcome shade for visiting elders. Groupings of family
and friends gather around booths, picnic tables, quilts, and folding chairs.
Class and Family Reunions will be held throughout the day. Roping
at Downie Arena and children's events on the Courthouse lawn will be scheduled.
Activities wane in the late afternoon as homage is paid to siesta time,
but pick up after the sun goes down. A short nap, a cool shower, or a dip in the pool
will revive most folks. The dance on Hackberry Street between the Courthouse and
High School features live music from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am. Things get lively about
midnight as music wafts in all directions from the Courthouse block.
Visitors are invited to the church of their choice on Sunday.
If you can't join us this 4th of July, check out the St.James
Summer Festival later in July or the Pachanga in early October...or
there is always next year.
